Many of us equate portion control with suffering, or resigning to the notion that we’ll have to go hungry in order to lose weight. In reality, there are some simple suggestions we can follow that make portion control a much easier endeavor.
Practice mindful eating: slow down and take your time to enjoy each bite. Focus on the flavors, textures, and sensations of your food, which will help in feeling more satisfied and reducing the tendency to overeat. Eat when you’re genuinely hungry and stop when you feel comfortably satisfied, rather than eating until you’re overly full.
Minimize distractions: avoid eating in front of screens or while engaging in other activities. If you’re feeling really ambitious, keep a food journal to increase awareness of your eating patterns and emotional triggers.
