Sleeping it off (Part 1)

Getting a good night’s sleep can be harder than it sounds. We may have trouble sleeping, or simply have too many responsibilities and not enough hours in the day. However, getting enough sleep has many health benefits, and can be a large contributor to your weight loss efforts. The next few posts will focus on how catching z’s can help with shedding pounds.

Appetite Regulation: Sleep helps regulate hormones that control appetite, such as leptin and ghrelin. A lack of sleep can lead to imbalances in these hormones, which can increase feelings of hunger and lead to overeating.

Improved Food Choices: Sleep deprivation can impair decision making and increase cravings for high-calorie, sugary, and fatty foods.
